The Sun Is A Shadow Thief

The daylight barely shines,
Through the blinds that are there to shield me,
I almost got to sleep, but the thoughts kept on reeling.
I still feel like hitting bricks,
But my hands aren’t built like those in comic books, so…
I know you won’t agree,
But that makes this all the better, really…
You use me like a switch,
I’m better on but I’ll take what I can get.

I lay on English green with my face to the sun
Enveloped in heat, I can almost feel home.

Who took the safety off?
And pushed me right into the arms of battle?
“Gun button onto “fire”, it’s for your own protection”.
My heart has sunk like ships,
With the weight of another planned out failure.
Tell me exactly when
I changed into a broken record?
A silly little kid,
That was sure to grow up at the airport…
But never did.

The suits and the lights made me sick with the sight
Of the signs held in lines for the workers.

I lay on English green with my face to the sun
Enveloped in heat, I can almost feel home,
So maybe I’ll sleep tonight.
